r/shoujo · who's your favorite shoujo mangaka? mine is Mika Yamamori!!!! tell meee yours !!! i need more amazing authors to obsess over!!Probably CLAMP overall, but in terms of quality I think they’re outpaced by Tomoko Yamashita, Battan and Fumi Yoshinaga. CLAMP’s highs are really high but their lows are extremely low, whereas all three of the others are very good very consistently. Nothing beats Tokyo Babylon but Hibari no Asa and Run Away With Me Girl come close. Yamamori is one of my least favorite shoujo authors though. Combination of doing some stuff I find really terrible, being pretty emblematic of some very annoying trends in the shoujo community and having some of the worst fans I’ve seen in the shoujo community. I also noticed the above mentioned 2 titles are both Dessert Magazine works which are known for their low-stakes saccharine romances so maybe try some titles from other magazines. The rule of thumb that works for me are basically fantasy settings, stories with a bit more of a gimm
r/shoujo · Need recs with tomboy/less feminine FLs!In the Clear Moonlit Dusk isn't the best recommendation for this trope imo, because the FL is indeed introduced as this handsome prince-like girl, but her entire thing is that she wants to be more feminine and seen as a girl, rather than embracing being androgynous/gnc (which ofc isn't a bad thing, but usually when people want an androgynous/non-feminine FL, it's with the expectation that she likes that side of herself)
