I’m really sorry! The manga I know that focus on dog and owner relationships tend to be very emotional (Stargazing Dog). I highly recommend it But *Shiba Inu Maru* is pretty lighthearted... it mainly focuses on the dog perspective and slice-of-life moments

Strongest man kurosawa is probably the best in this niche imo. FKMT is the best at writing this topic and it shows in his parts of his other work like Nikaidou Hell Golf and Tonegawa in Kaiji. Still you should try Minoru Furuya manga, they all have similar themes but Wanitokagegisu/Saltiness/Gereksiz are the ones with older protagonists. DEFINITELY try gekiga manga the biggest authors are Yoshiharu Tsuge (The Man Without Talent especially) and Yoshihiro Tatsumi, any work from them should fit. Also they are very bleak/surreal/disturbing but also try Yoshikazu Ebisu's manga. Inio Asano's Downfal
