Rose of Versailles, has an anime adaptation and you'll probably see how it influenced Utena. The Heart of Thomas, The Poe Clan, and A Cruel God Reigns by Moto Hagio. Made around the same time as Oniisama e, Heart of Thomas has a lot of that mysterious school drama stuff going on. A Cruel God Reigns covers some of the same topics as Banana Fish, although it's not an action series. Requiem for the Rose King. Has a lot of shocking dramatic turns like Oniisama e does. Medieval setting. Has an anime adaptation too.
