Utena from the eponymous Revolutionary Girl Utena may look girlish but is defined by taking on the role of a “prince” and thus contesting gender roles. She even uses “boku”. Hana no Kishi is heavily influenced by the above mentioned title and Ran is also not girlish even if the manga, sadly, does try to “doki doki” her way too much for my liking. Limit. Approch with caution as it is violent and wild but plenty of its cast is not girlish. The survivalist, by far my favorite character in the bunch, stands out in this regard.
